Review and Customize Occupations Guide

The Review and Customize Occupations page is your starting point for understanding how your workforce data aligns to Pearson’s occupation ontology.

Occupation customizer-reviewandcustom

This page gives you a consolidated view of all job titles you’ve uploaded, the occupations they were mapped to, and any custom occupations you’ve already created.

It’s the central hub for deciding whether an occupation needs refinement before you move into task customization.

What this page shows

1. All mapped occupations

You’ll see a list of occupations that your job titles were mapped to, along with:

  • Occupation name and level

  • Total headcount tied to that occupation

  • All job titles associated with it

This helps you confirm whether the mapped occupation accurately represents your workforce.

2. Custom occupations

If you’ve previously created custom versions of an occupation, they appear alongside the original ontology occupations. This keeps all your versions visible in one place, allowing you to revisit or update them whenever needed.

3. Job title breakdown

Under each occupation, you can expand to view the full list of job titles and the headcount for each one. This is useful for spotting role patterns, grouping variations, or identifying cases where customization might be needed.

Filtering and sorting tools

To help you navigate large workforces, you can refine the list using:

  • Job Family filters

  • Ontology Occupation filters

  • Job Title filters

  • Sorting options such as headcount or alphabetical order

These controls allow you to focus on specific segments of your organization or particular role groups you want to customize.

When to customize an occupation

You’d move into customization when:

  • Job titles mapped to the same occupation perform tasks differently

  • The default task list doesn’t match how work is actually done

  • Time allocation across tasks doesn’t reflect your internal reality

  • You have unique responsibilities or blended roles that require adjustment

From this page, selecting Customize Occupation will take you into the detailed task customization experience.

Creating custom occupations

If you decide the mapped occupation needs modification, you can create a custom occupation directly from this page. Custom occupations allow you to:

  • Maintain a tailored version of the occupation

  • Keep the original ontology occupation intact

  • Apply the custom version to selected job titles

Once created, your custom occupation appears in the “Custom Occupations” tab, ready for further editing or use.

Why this page matters

This page is designed to give you clarity before you start editing tasks. By reviewing your mapped occupations and the job titles under them, you can make informed decisions about which roles require customization — ensuring a clean, purposeful workflow as you move deeper into Workforce Customizer.
